JEWELLERY CARE

CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY

A simple guide to preserving the beauty of every piece.

Your jewellery is made to be worn, enjoyed, and treasured. With a little everyday care, you can help preserve its finish and keep it looking beautiful over time.

01  |  925 STERLING SILVER

Genuine 925 sterling silver contains 92.5% pure silver. It is durable and suitable for everyday wear. Like all genuine silver, it may naturally develop a soft patina or darken slightly over time when exposed to air, moisture, and everyday products. This is a natural characteristic of silver and its shine can usually be refreshed.

Everyday care

After wearing, gently wipe your piece with a clean, soft jewellery cloth to remove oils and residue.
Store it in a dry place, ideally in a separate pouch or jewellery box, when not being worn.
Avoid prolonged contact with perfumes, lotions, cleaning products, chlorine, and other harsh chemicals.
If your piece includes stones, pearls, enamel, intentional oxidised details, or delicate components, use extra care and avoid soaking it.

Gentle at-home cleaning

For plain 925 sterling silver without stones, pearls, enamel, intentional oxidised details, or delicate components, use lukewarm water with a small amount of mild, pH-neutral liquid soap (a gentle, fragrance-free dishwashing liquid is suitable). Clean gently with your fingertips or a very soft cloth, rinse briefly with clean water, and dry completely. Do not soak the piece.

For tarnish, a jewellery-specific silver-polishing cloth is the preferred option. Toothpaste is not recommended because its abrasives can scratch or dull polished silver and may damage stones, details, or finishes. Avoid scrubbing with toothpaste or bicarbonate of soda.

About toothpaste and bicarbonate of soda

Toothpaste and bicarbonate of soda (sometimes called carbonato) are often suggested as home remedies; you can use them but both can be abrasive for jewellery cleaning, as rubbing may leave fine scratches, dull polished surfaces, damage intentional darkened details, or affect stones and settings. For plain silver, choose lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, pH-neutral liquid soap; for tarnish, use a suitable silver-polishing cloth.

02  |  GOLD VERMEIL OVER 925 STERLING SILVER

Gold vermeil features a gold layer over a 925 sterling silver base. The golden surface is a finish, so gentle care helps preserve its colour and appearance.

How to care for gold vermeil

After wearing, gently wipe with a clean, dry, soft jewellery cloth.
If needed, lightly buff the surface without applying pressure. Avoid vigorous rubbing.
Keep the piece away from toothpaste, bicarbonate of soda, silver polish, abrasive cleaners, and chemical dips.
Avoid soaking or washing the piece; minimise contact with water, perfume, lotions, and cleaning products.
Store separately in a dry pouch or jewellery box to reduce friction with other pieces.
Do not use home silver-cleaning methods on gold vermeil. Abrasive products and silver polishes can wear or alter the gold finish.

03  |  TWO-TONE SILVER & GOLD VERMEIL

Two-tone pieces combine the natural silver finish of 925 sterling silver with gold vermeil accents. Because the piece has two different finishes, treat the entire piece as delicately as gold vermeil.

How to care for two-tone jewellery

Wipe gently with a clean, dry, soft jewellery cloth after wearing.
Use light pressure only; avoid vigorous rubbing, polishing compounds, and abrasive cloths.
Do not use toothpaste, bicarbonate of soda, silver polish, chemical dips, or other home cleaning mixtures.
Avoid soaking and minimise contact with water, perfume, lotions, and household chemicals.
Store separately in a dry pouch or jewellery box to help prevent scratches and friction.
Because the gold accents can be affected by silver-cleaning products, never use a silver polish or silver-cleaning method on a two-tone piece

04  |  A FEW SIMPLE HABITS

Put jewellery on after applying perfume, lotion, hairspray, and cosmetics.
Remove jewellery before swimming, bathing, exercising, or using household cleaning products.
Avoid storing different pieces together where they can rub against one another.
